{Our Week} - 8/19/13 - 8/25/13

Madden LOVES puzzles.  It's his favorite thing to do lately.  Those big block piece ones are his favorite.  He gets a little frustrated when he can't get it to fit in quite right, but with a little help from Mom, Dad or big sis he gets it to fit and claps in excitement :)

Mariah is doing AWESOME at preschool!  She absolutely loves it.  It is so fun picking her up - she goes on and on about the fun projects they did and all the new friends she's made.  Also - I'm pretty sure Mariah is going to be an athlete.  Put a bat in her hand and she can whack that ball!  What age does tee ball start? :)

Mike has turned into a workout buff!  There's not a day that goes by where he's not out on his bike or lacing up his running shoes.  He's already committed to running the QC half marathon in September (I am still trying to make up my mind!).

I am into WEEK 7 of my workout training program (T25).  I wasn't a huge fan at the start of it, but kept pushing through, and now I'm finding that I really love it!  (Well, I don't LOVE doing it, but I love the results so far!).

In an attempt to get Mariah to go to bed I told her that I was going to cancel preschool the next day unless she went to sleep.

Her response: "Mom, you can't cancel school.  It's too big!!"

Darn, she's right.  Too smart for her own good. :\

On Saturday we did the Color Me Rad 5k in Moline.  I was a last minute decision to bring the kids and walk it - but so glad we did!

We had a great time and the kids loved it!  We even let them get out of the stroller and walk through the finish line :)

We took the kids out for dinner at Happy Joe's on Friday.  It was probably one of the best out to eat experiences we've had in a long, long time.  We RARELY go out to eat because, well, let's just say its a little crazy with two kids.

They had fun coloring and of course the ice cream after dinner was a big hit! :)

{Our TWO Weeks} - 8/5/13 - 8/18/13

Madden is a comedian - I am convinced.  Lately he's really enjoyed calling Mike by his first name (he must hear me say "Mike"?).  Mike of course is a little upset and corrects him and says "No, it's daddy". Then Madden looks at him with a huge grin and says "Mike!"  I can't help but laugh :)

Madden turned 19 months old this week and I am so impressed with how well he takes directions.  Telling him something like "go get your shoes" - he is instantly heading towards the closet and comes back with his shoes.  Smart little dude (and less work for mom and dad as he gets more independent!).

Oh and he also got his first shiner this week!  The result of Mariah's scooter hitting him in the head and flattening him. :( I know he's a boy and it's bound to happen, but it made me so sad!  He took it like a champ!  I think his only tears were the result of me freaking out!

Mariah started PRESCHOOL this week!  She couldn't have been more excited about it.  Just the mention of preschool brought a HUGE smile to her face.  We spent the past couple months doing "test runs" of preschool drop off (which consisted of us walking her into the living room, giving her a hug and telling her to have a good day as she waved bye!).  So when the day was FINALLY here I was a bit nervous that things might not go quite so smooth.  BOY WAS I WRONG.  Mariah walked up with her teacher, turned around and waved "BYE GUYS! SEE YOU LATER!".  I managed a quick wave and turned around so she couldn't see the tears in my eyes.  I can't wait to see all she learns, the friends she makes and the activities she will do! :)

Mike had quite the busy two weeks!  He spent 8 days traveling for work (one week in PA, one week in Las Vegas).  He survived some intensive training during those days and we are so proud of him!  And of course glad to have him back home and into our normal routine again! :)

This weekend Mike & I competed in the Du State Du.  I run/bike duathlon in Illinois.  We registered as a 2 person team and Mike did the biking while I did the running.  We did pretty good for our first time in an event like that!  I averaged about 7:45 min miles (4 total) and Mike conquer a super challenging/hilly 15 mile bike ride in about 45 minutes.  It was quite an experience and Mike is convinced that he will be doing a Triathlon next year and I should, too!  YIKES.  We will see about that one.

Oh and in other news - we booked a vacation to Riviera Maya later this fall!  We are so overdue for a little getaway (just Mike and I) so we took the plunge and booked a trip to an all inclusive resort.  I absolutely cannot wait!  We are going to consider it a late 5 year anniversary trip! :)

And even more news.... my etsy shop is continuing to grow and is doing well!  I am really enjoying the custom orders and working with customers from all over the country!  Contact me if you ever need any invitations or party decor :)

On Mike's second week of being out of town after I picked the kids up from day care Mariah asked if Daddy was home yet.  After I told her no, not yet he's still working she responded:

"Daddy's taking for ages to come home!"

PLANES Movie (8/10)!

Last weekend we took the kids to their first movie - PLANES!  Only makes sense, right? :)

They both did surprisingly well!  The theater had nice booster seats for kids and as long as we kept the popcorn within reach for Madden all was good!

We made it through about 90% of the movie (aka when the popcorn ran out).

But I definitely consider that a success!!!

Bike Ride to the Park (8/17)!

This weekend we hooked the bike trailer up and took our first bike ride with the kids.  We packed a picnic lunch and ventured out on a couple mile ride to a nearby park.  The kids did great in the trailer and had so much fun!

ICE CREAM!  Aren't they just the sweetest :)

{Our Week} - 7/29/13 - 8/4/13

Madden is in love with Elmo - have I mentioned that before?  I wonder how kids get so hooked on Elmo - I'm pretty sure he was saying "Elmo" before we even exposed him to Elmo.  This week alone the kid got 2 new Elmo movies and an Elmo night light.  He also goes to bed every night with a stuffed elmo and his favorite jammies are, you guessed it, ELMO! :)  Madden also started saying "thank you" this week (gotta start manners at a young age, right?).  It sounds more like "hey coo" - but it sure is sweet :)

Madden also had his FIRST haircut this week.  This boy had some major curls going on and the humidity was making it a bit crazy!  Bye bye baby curls! (Oh, and we didn't take any pictures mid-haircut because he was one very unhappy boy.  Poor dude!)

Mariah got some roller skates this week!  We have an awesome second hand store where we an account for stuff we've brought in and sold - every now and then we bring the kids there and let them pick out a new toy.  Roller skates were Mariah's choice (she calls them "roller scapes")!  They are those kid ones where you wear your shoes with them, and the don't "roll" very much.  But she LOVES them (even if she more or less "walks" in them).

Mike and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary this week (WHAT?!) with a trip to Williamburg.  Conveniently it was tax free day in Iowa, so we loaded up on clothes and shoes for the kids!  We even got a chance to stop by my cousin's house and meet baby Katie!  She is beyond adorable - such a sweetie! :)

Mariah: "Hey Mom!  Look at this!"

Me: "Oh ya cool Mariah"

Mariah: "No Mom, turn your head and look with your eyes!"

(I'm guilty :(  And she knows it!)

Putnam Museum

We won a family membership to the Putnam Museum earlier this year but had yet to go there.

We decided on Sunday that it would be a fun little activity for the family.

The kids had fun checking out all of the displays and playing with all the interactive stuff.

We can't wait to go back and explore again!

Madden had a blast playing this drum at the Putnam!
